Uma Exegese do Capital

Alcir Pécora

This article attempts a reading of the condemned writings of the Portuguese Jesuit Antonio Vieira (1608–1697) in terms of the decisive role of Jewish capital in the preservation of the Portuguese monarchy. It views Vieira’s texts as an example of the political and theological thought of the time rather than as a manifestation of any avant la lettre bourgeois consciousness.
