As ruínas da homossexualidade: O gótico em Bom-Crioulo, de Adolfo Caminha

In 1895, in Rio de Janeiro, Adolfo Caminha published the novel Bom-Crioulo—a bold narrative about male homosexuality. By means of narrative configurations that introduce gothic elements into the work, the author surrounds the protagonist’s sexuality with an air of mystery and decadence. In the process, he puts at stake the very naturalist philosophy that he claims inspired his literary endeavor.
