Notas sobre as (não) traduções de Machado de Assis

Hélio de Seixas Guimarães

During Machado de Assis’ lifetime, literary and editorial productions became more and more internationalized, with intense circulation of fictional and non-fictional texts among periodicals from the two Hemispheres and varying latitudes. This article examines how Machado participated in this process, reading and collaborating with foreign publications, publishing some of his novels in spaces disputed with translated " feuilletons," engaging himself in three frustrated attempts to be translated into German and finally trying to have his works published in Portugal.
