"São Paulo Lightning": Flashes of a City in Luiz Ruffato’s Eles eram muitos cavalos

A gigantesca cidade de São Paulo é a protagonista do romance Eles eram muitos cavalos, do escritor brasileiro Luiz Ruffato. Este romance contemporâneo, publicado em 2001, é composto por múltiplos fragmentos díspares que juntos representam a realidade brasileira através de uma insistência marcante numa pluralidade de vozes. O texto inovador combina uma temática social com experimentalismo formal. Ao mostrar o caráter desumano deste mosaico urbano, o romance incentiva uma conscientização social no leitor ao mesmo tempo que apela à questão—mesmo que imperfeita—da cidadania.
