Body Politics in Patrícia Galvão’s Parque industrial

Esta leitura de Parque industrial (1933) de Patrícia Galvão enfoca uma obsessão textual com os corpos feridos, asquerosos e monstruosos para destacar desde um novo ângulo crítico as atitudes ambivalentes no romance sobre classe, gênero, e raça. Coloco esta temática dentro do contexto histórico e cultural do romance, assim participando do recente retorno crítico aos textos do modernismo com o enfoque da raça, discussão que se centra nas obras mais canônicas e tende a excluir obras como Parque industrial. Uma análise cuidadosa da representação dos corpos no romance revela um aparente desejo de subverter os conceitos essencialistas do corpo e a opressão relacionada (sexismo, racismo), e simultaneamente uma tendência de reforçar esse mesmo essencialismo. Esta ambivalência manifesta e participa das tensões sexuais e raciais no Brasil da época, e pode ser considerada uma extensão da luta da própria Pagu para definir uma autorepresentação adequada como artista e intelectual num corpo feminino.
