Machado de Assis, the "Defunto Autor" and the Death of the Author

Apesar do surgimento de importantes teorias, nos últimos 80 anos, afirmando a "morte" ou pelo menos a irrelevância do autor nos estudos literários, o interesse da crítica em compreender o homem Machado de Assis sempre foi urgente. Paradoxalmente, certas práticas do próprio autor brasileiro, especialmente no sentido de criar narradores "independentes" do autor, contribuem a esse culto de Machado autor.
