Abstract
This paper aims to discuss the complex relation that Carlos Drummond de Andrade seems to have had with the main figures and principles of the first Brazilian Modernist moment. Such a discussion sheds new light on the poems which were included by the poet in the 1930 volume Alguma poesia that can now be read according to an inner aesthetic conflict Drummond was experiencing during those years. His correspondance with some of his contemporaries such as Mário de Andrade is very clear in this respect.
