But since Roger Bastide’s analysis of his work, some critics have noted an acute sense of reality in Cruz e Sousa’s poems. Following these new interpretations, and through a close reading of “Navios” – from Missal (1893) – we try to understand here the links between literature, impressionist art and society in Cruz e Sousa’s prose poem.
