For that purpose, I used documents from the Overseas Lisbon Council Archive and the legal background that contextualized this period. In those sources, I identified specific aspects related to the matrimonial property division regimes shaped by the Ius Commune and the Portuguese Ius Proprium, specifically the regimes of dotes e arras and carta de ametade. I compared the primary sources treating everyday situations to the normative system in force in order to identify the peculiarities of application of the dotes e arras and carta de ametade regimes in the Captaincy of Para{\'\i}ba, as part of a global Empire, and how practices can inform us on local peculiarities.}, issn = {0024-7413}, URL = {https://lbr.uwpress.org/content/57/1/30}, eprint = {https://lbr.uwpress.org/content/57/1/30.full.pdf}, journal = {Luso-Brazilian Review} }
